Volunteer
Our families play an important role in fulfilling our mission by working together with educators and staff to support students in their journeys.
As part of each family’s commitment to our school, we ask that you contribute your time and expertise by volunteering from home, in the classroom, at an event, or by joining one of our parent-led Family Volunteer Teams. Extended family members are welcome to help you achieve your volunteer hours.
All volunteers who will have direct, unsupervised contact with students are required to complete a criminal background check. The fee is $5 and your background check must be renewed annually.
Family Volunteers
As a small, public charter school, our Family Volunteers have a vital role in ensuring that special events and enrichment programs happen. Every family at Desert Sky is already a member of the Family Volunteers. If you have a particular interest or skill set, please share your talents on a Family Volunteer Team!
Friends of Desert Sky (FODS)
Assist staff with event planning, solicit sponsors and donations for fundraisers, organize Teacher Appreciation Week, write thank you cards, design graphics for school communications and social media.
Room Parents
Support teachers with organization of classroom events, coordinate teacher gifts, and inform parents about volunteer opportunities.
Garden Committee
Help with watering, planting, and maintaining the edible and pollinator gardens; lead students in hands-on gardening activities.
Campus Beautification
Participate in campus cleanup efforts, maintain landscaping, or help with small repairs and building projects.
